My All-Time Favorite Series

file_000-22

So, it’s February, the month that holds Valentine’s Day, the holiday of love! So, I thought that it’d be fun this month to do all the things talking about book boyfriends and all of the bookish things I love, and what better way to start then talking about my favorite series! I’ll guess that most of these will be repetitive to you if you’ve been here since the beginning, but let’s begin anyway!

(Also, note, there are no links to descriptions because most of these series are pretty damn popular, so I don’t think you guys need to read the description for the 34498018410840 time.)

(And another note: if you think you’ve seen this earlier today, you did. I attempted to post this earlier, but for some reason, WordPress keeps posting some of my posts days back so it doesn’t show up in anyone’s newsfeeds and gets completely lost, so I decided to put this one back in Draft and Re-Publish it again. If anyone has gone through this problem/knows how to fix it, feel free to talk to me, because it’s driving me nuts.)

The Raven Cycle

the-raven-cycle-series-1

Okay, so a lot of people are on The Raven Cycle hype train ever since it just got super popular out of nowhere and Maggie Stiefvater became one of the Coolest Authors Alive, BUT THIS SERIES. It makes me so happy to read about the Gangsey and all the beautiful Pynch moments and laugh at all the jokes and deadpan humor and be filled with wonder at the magical world Stiefvater has created. This is one of those book series where I would literally love to be transported in.

The Throne of Glass Series

throne-of-glass-series

Everyone should know that I’m one Sarah J. Maas’s biggest fangirls and that this series completely and totally changed my life. Never have I ever been so involved in a series, especially the romance (Rowaelin shipper for life, if you care that much). I just love how strong the ladies are, and the ships are all so wonderful because all the boys respect everyone and treat them like their equals! This is probably my most hated series on this list but #hatersgonnahate.

(Also, did you hear? TOG #6 is being delayed until next year, specifically May of 2018 because of some health issues Sarah’s having! Hopefully, she’s okay; that’s what really matters to me – plus I still haven’t read EOS yet.)

*

Harry Potter

harry-potter

I don’t think this needs an explanation, but Harry! The Golden Trio! Amazing quotes! All the feels! Nostalgia! The characters! The magic! Ravenclaw!

*

Percy Jackson and the Olympians & The Heroes of Olympus

rick-riordan

And neither does this one. But Percy! Greek Mythology! Leo! Nico! Diversity! Annabeth! All the ships! Rick Riordan is a total BAMF!

*

The Six of Crows Duology

soc-duology

This is the book series that has made me obsessed with heists in fantasy novels. Damn you, Bardugo. But, seriously, I love the beautiful world of Ketterdam and the characters are just absolutely delightful. Literally, try to ask a fan who their favorite character is. They can’t give you one because they’re all so precious.

*

The Young Elites

the-young-elites

I also love Lu’s Legend trilogy, but fantasy is my Achilles’ heel. I jus loved the idea of exploring anti-heroes, and, of course she aced the characters, and Magiano is absolutely precious. I demand more series written about anti-heroes in the future.

*

Shades of Magic

A Gathering of Shadows Final

This was a book (and an author) that hadn’t been recommended to me for so long that I eventually caved last year, and I haven’t looked back. I loved ADSOM, but AGOS was even better, if that’s possible. The cast of characters is so small, but so vibrant, and Schwab’s writing just makes it all the better.

*

The ACOTAR Trilogy

acotarseries

Again, I’m an SJM fangirl. And after reading ACOMAF, this definitely solidified its place as one of my favorite series. I mean, who doesn’t want to be Feyre? Who doesn’t want to be a part of the Night Court? WHO?? Also, I love how wonderfully feminist this series is, and I think it’s highly important for girls to learn about abusive relationships and how to be brave enough to leave them and how you don’t have to suffer through depression alone and male sexual abuse and THESE BOOKS ARE SO IMPORTANT.

*

The Unwind Dystology

unwinddystology-1

I think I’ve explained enough in about a million different posts about why I love this series so much, so I’ll just leave you with the simple sentiment to READ IT!

*

The Original Mortal Instruments Trilogy

the-mortal-instrument-redesign

Ok, I’m not the biggest fan of the last three books that were tacked on to the original TMI trilogy (if you didn’t know, way back in the day, the series was originally supposed to end at City of Glass, but she ended up writing three more books), but I loved this series the first time I read it back in seventh grade, and I re-read it last year and I still loved it. Malec was the original gay OTP, and nothing has changed from that (except the fact that I have even more gay OTPs).

*

The Red Rising Trilogy

red-rising-trilogy

This is such a good series. It’s a very sci-fi heavy read on a completely different planet with a system where people’s status is determined by their colors. It’s super intense and super violent (which might put off some people, but certainly not me) and Sevro is perfect, and the world-building is amazing, and Darrow is perfect and hot, and the speeches are fantastic, and the ladies are badass, and it’s literally everything. Plus, the author’s hot, so, there’s that.

*

The Lunar Chronicles

lunar-chronicles-marissa-meyer

I’m pretty sure this is on everyone’s lists, but it’s just that good! I love the divers even cast of female characters, and the perfection of all the male characters (especially Thorne, who is MINE!) and the humor and the action. It’s just the perfect blend of everything and such a good series for those making the transition from Middle Grade to YA.

*

The Captive Prince Trilogy

captive-prince

I love nothing more than a good gay romance, and since Tumblr goes nuts recommending this series, I just had to. I finally bought them, and though they were super expensive for ebooks, they were totally worth it. Politics, war, slow-burn romance, sass, and the perfection of the Damen and Laurent ship. It’s pretty much everything I wanted from the Winner’s trilogy by Marie Rutkoski except more adult and much better.

*

The Penryn and the End of Days Trilogy

angelfall.jpg

If you’ve been on Goodreads, you might have heard of how this series swept the website back when it was first self-published. I had to join in the hype, and I finally read it, and it was so brilliant! What’s better than a slow-burn hate to love romance between Penryn and Raffe? Literally nothing. I loved the sisterly bond and the angel lore was just so interesting. Just read this series. You won’t regret it.

The Hunger Games Trilogy

hunger games.jpg

And last, but certainly not least, the Hunger Games trilogy. No explanation needed.

img_2014

And that’s it for my all-time favorite series! Of course, I haven’t mentioned all my favorite series – there are still more that I just didn’t mention in this post – so there’ll probably be a Part 2 sometime in the future, but these are some of my favorites for now!

What are some of your favorite series? Do we share any of the same ones (if we do, feel free to fangirl)?

    • Yes, I read it late as well, and it was so worth it! I’m actually glad I did because the cliffhangers are awful. 😬 And no problem; please do! I recommend them all!

  1. Oh my god, I’m having the same publishing glitch. I have yet to overcome it. It’s so obnoxious. I normally just end up copying and pasting my posts into a new draft to publish them. I didn’t know ToG 6 was being delayed because of health issues, I thought it was for Chaol’s novel. I hope Sarah’s okay as well. Anyway, I love her books too! I keep hearing about the Captive Prince trilogy and it sounds super cool!

    • OMG I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO SUFFERS! I did the same thing; I copied my old post, deleted it, and re-posted it. I don’t know why this is happening; all I want to do is post the blog I worked an hour on! 😤

Yeah, the Chaol novel is being loved from summer to September, and TOG 6 is coming out next year in May! I’m thinking her health issues have to do with her hand; it seems to have been a problem for a long while, but I don’t know. I think there’s an update on her website?

Yes, read it! It’s so good! 😍

  2. I’m a Sarah J Maas lover too so both of her series are in my list too! Same happens with TMI and THG (which was the series that got me into reading). Then in your list you also have some series I have read the first book but not the others like The Raven Cycle and Six of Crows (both series I really want to continue specially Six of Crows♥) and The Lunar Chronicles which I’m not sure I will continue. Also there are some series I want to start like Percy Jackson, The Young Elites and Shade of Magic.
    Great post!!

    • Yes, THG was the first YA book I read, so it means so much to me! 😍 Ooh, you’re in for a treat with The Raven Cycle! I actually still have to read Crooked Kingdom, so you’re not alone! I thought the Lunar Chronicles got better with each book, so I’d say don’t give up yet! And yes yes yes to all of those three! ❤ Thank you!

      Liked by 1 person

    • Yes to both of those! And, yeah, I definitely thought it was worth reading, if you’re into M/M slow-burn romance. The first book definitely isn’t as great as the last two, but I really enjoyed it as a whole.

      Liked by 1 person

      • I had read that the first book had some issues, though that’s not necessarily a problem. I typically complete series anyway. I will look into it again, maybe add it to my TBR in the future. 😀

      • Yeah, I’d say there’s a trigger warning for rape, if you’re not into that, but all acts that happen between Damen and Laurent are consensual. The rape involved two totally different.

But, I hope you enjoy it if you get to it! 😄

        Liked by 1 person

      • Lol, for some reason I must have misread my comment before posting it because I meant to say “The rape happens between different people, and Damen and Laurent’s relationship is consensual.” But if you’re not into it’s fine; I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, especially since it’s not YA, it’s Adult. 😄

        Liked by 1 person

      • I’d say they’re more fantasy (not even really fantasy, just whatever genre includes kings and courts and such without magic?) than romance, because the romance is more of a subplot to the main plot of Damen trying to get back his kingdom. Damen is sold to slavery as a sort of betrayal and has to preside in a kingdom that treats slaves like crap and basically has a sort of Rome-like tendency to make them battle it out in an arena, and whoever wins gets to rape the loser. I mean, it’s definitely effed up, and Damen’s well aware of that and doesn’t partake in it, but it does happen.

But, yeah, less romance-y, more focused on politics and war and such. The romance is more of a bonus. But, yeah, I definitely know that the series isn’t made for everyone.

      • Yes I bet it has been. I actually already have it pre-ordered oops, hahah. But my 15 day wait will be nothing compared to everyones year long wait 😀

        Liked by 1 person

      • My library usually doesn’t, and it’s one that I want for my collection so I ordered it, but hopefully your library will have it soon after release day 😀

  3. Me and SJM are BFF’s – well inside my head. Her writing is so amazing and she seems like such a happy, awkward, quirky person in real life. And one of these days I’ll actually read crooked kingdom – I don’t know why I keep putting it off?!

    Liked by 1 person

    • Lol same! I met her last year and she was the sweetest person ever, and she’s absolutely hilarious and wonderful. And, same; I have yet to read Crooked Kingdom as well! It’s ridiculous lol

      Liked by 1 person

  4. I really really wish they would drop the price of Captive Prince. I’ve been desperate to read for ages but as I already own a couple of hundred ebooks I haven’t read i really can’t justify getting them. No doubt I’ll cave at some point 😉

    Liked by 1 person

    • Oh, yeah, I bought the ebooks last summer, and they are SO EXPENSIVE. I thought it was worth it though, in the end! 😄 I don’t even know why they’re expensive. I’d love to have them in physical copy, but it’s probably even more expensive. 😂

  5. Ahhhh these series are pretty much all my faves. Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Rick Riordan’s books are obvious contenders, and omg Red Rising, A Darker Shade of Magic and SIX OF CROWS ahhhhhh LOVE LOVE LOVE. ❤ ❤ ❤ I'm way too excited over these. But they're so worth it!

    Liked by 1 person

    • Ahh, another fellow Red Rising fan! I feel so alone in that one; it’s one of my favorite series ever, and I feel like it doesn’t get enough love! And yes, all the excitement for my favorite series! Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, and Rick Riordan’s books are like YA classics, and Six of Crows and the Shades of Magic series are such brilliant fantasies! They are definitely worth it! 😀

      Liked by 1 person

  6. I keep meeting people who have never read Harry Potter and, honestly, I didn’t know that was possible. The sheer numbers of books sold make it seem like that’s your best bet for making a reading connection with someone. And I feel bad that they have not experienced the magic!

    Liked by 1 person

    • Haha, yes, so true! I always assume everyone’s read it because it’s sold so many copies around the world, how could you not! I feel the same about people who don’t finish the series as well. I saw someone who stopped after Book 2, and it’s like, “But the first two books aren’t that good! Prisoner of Azkaban is so magical and perfect!” But I usually stop myself lol. 😂

      Like

      • I guess not??? It’s always crazy to me, mainly because sometimes people say they don’t like them because they didn’t grow up with them, but I certainly didn’t. I was in the sixth grade when I binged them, five years after the last book was published, and I devoured them and still liked them, even though I was spoiled about pretty much everything. I guess it’s different for everyone! 😄

        Like

      • I didn’t start reading them until the fourth book was out, so I wasn’t there from the start. I can see, though, that it can be difficult for readers now because the first books are grade school level and the last books are more YA, so what age range do you recommend them to?

        Liked by 1 person

      • Hm, I don’t know. Funnily enough, I call both Harry Potter and Percy Jackson YA series, even though, technically they’re middle grade. It’s one of those weird book series where the characters get older, so it sort of switches genre halfway through, sort of like how some YA series can go from high school to college, so, technically it should be NA, but it doesn’t feel like it? Age range is so confusing. XD I’d still probably put it in middle grade level, but I could definitely put it with YA as well!

        Like

      • Libraries often shelve HP in both MG and YA sections. It’s just difficult because you can have a third grader reading the first three books but maybe they’re not ready for the content of the last four. But how do you tell them to stop and wait for a few years to finish the series?

        Liked by 1 person

      • Oh, yeah, I get that, because the last four books can be intense, especially since the movies are also rated PG-13 after Prisoner of Azkaban. I don’t really know what’d I do; I’m only sixteen after all, and I don’t think I’d ever be qualified to tell what kids should or shouldn’t read. XD

        Like

      • Well, it’s usually the parents who have to make that kind of choice since they’re more aware of what content their children are likely to find overly frightening. I am certainly not qualified to tell every reader what they ought to be reading! 😀

        Liked by 1 person

      • Yeah, definitely! And I’m certainly not qualified either. I read adult books as well as YA, and with how old I am, apparently I “shouldn’t” be reading books for adults, but I don’t see the big deal. I guess it’s all up to how mature you think your child is.

  7. You have literally got so many of my all-time favourite series on this list Mikaela. I mentioned it in your other post but I love V.E. Schwab and the Shades of Magic books are my ultimate favourite series at the moment, and I think the same about The Lunar Chronicles as well. Both are amazing and both I will be re-reading over and over again at some point.
I feel Harry Potter is an obvious one, and so is Percy Jackson as well but they’re loads of people’s favourites.
Red Rising, Penryn and the End of Days, The Raven Cycle, and A Court of Thorns and Roses are all favourites as well.
Basically I just loved everything you put on this list! 😀 ❤

  8. Yes, the Shades of Magic and TLC series are great! I literally cannot wait for A Conjuring of Light, and I really want to get to Wires and Nerve; I’ve heard great things about it! I feel like the ending for ACOL is going to absolutely destroy me though. XD

And, yeah, I feel like those two and the Hunger Games are classics.

And yeah, glad to see we have so many favorite series in common! I really want to re-read the Red Rising trilogy; it was so damn good, and same with the ACOTAR trilogy and The Raven Cycle. Penryn and the End of Days needs so much more love!

  9. So many of these are my all time favorites as well! Six of Crows, ACOTAR, Harry Potter, TMI, Penryn, and THG. I love all of those so much. Aside from all of those one of my top favorite series ever is The Bone Season. It’s such a great series and has that perfect fantasy/dystopia mixture. I also need to read several of these series still. Especially the Shades of Magic books, Red Rising, and Throne of Glass. They’re all high up on my TBR this year. I’m going to be binge reading the Shades of Magic books next month since I’ve been waiting for the last book to be released. Great list!! 😁💕

    Liked by 1 person

    • Yeah, I’m glad you do as well! I’ve heard meh things about The Bone Season and it doesn’t really catch my interest, but I might try it out! And yes, all three of those series are great, so I hope you enjoy them! The cliffhangers for Shades of Magic are awful, so it’s a good idea to binge them all!

      Liked by 1 person

      • Yeah, I’ve noticed that The Bone Season can be a hit or miss. But if you ever do pick it up I hope you enjoy it! 😊
I’ve heard that a lot about the Shades of Magic cliffhangers. Exactly why I opted to binge read. Cliffhangers are always the best and the worst. 😂

        Liked by 1 person

      • Thank you; I might give it a try since I always like to see things for myself (even though I heard it’s supposed to be seven books long! The waaaaait).

Lol yes, I used to binge-read all the time, but I’m terrible at doing that now. With both shows and series. There’s just so many books out there! 🙈

        Liked by 1 person

      • Yep! Seven books. The third book releases in March but the wait for that one was two years. The wait has been torture but so worth it. 😊
I’m good at it with books but terrible with shows. It’s taken me years to get to season four of Supernatural 😂. There really are so many books out there though. So many books and so little time!

  10. These are all new to me including HP(hides face). However, that is one series that I hope to read someday. Great list. I will look out for your posts this month. I hope there are more lists coming up 🙂
