[LET’S CHAT] What’s Your Blogging Schedule?

File_000 (75).png

I need a blogging schedule.

I do. I really do. I know there are people out there who don’t have a blogging schedule and post whenever, and I’m in awe of that because I just couldn’t do that. One, because I wouldn’t know when to post something. I’m that type of person who edits and re-edits and edits all over again because I want everything to look perfect, and the only thing that actually forces me to hit the “Publish” button is knowing when the post is going to come up. Two, because I need organization in my life, and I can’t live without it. And, three, because I probably wouldn’t be consistently posting if I just posted whenever. I wouldn’t know when to plan the post or to write it, etc. So, basically, I’d be a hot mess.

But, it did take me a while before I developed my own blogging schedule. I’ve said this before, but I started my blog on a whim, without any planning whatsoever, so my posting was all over the place, and I didn’t even think to have a schedule. So, I decided it’d be nice to walk you through my own!

If you guys have been around a while, you’ll know that I post on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. My basic outline for the week is that Mondays are reserved for reviews (if I manage to write one up that week), and Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays are reserved for other things bookish – a Discussion post, a Let’s Chat, a recommendations post, a list, a tag, etc. I decided to declare Mondays review days because I thought it’d be nice to take a break from bombarding you guys with three Let’s Chat posts in a row, for instance, and the fact that since they don’t do well in terms of stats, I’ll just shove them in the beginning of the week to get it over with.

I don’t know if you’ve guys noticed, but I usually reserve my monthly discussion and recommendation posts purely for the last two Sundays of the month. I don’t really have any reasoning for it other than those were the days when I first posted them, and I decided to continue with it and make it a sort of trend. I consider Sundays and Fridays the days where my stats are the best, which is funny, because most bloggers have said that the weekends are their worst days for posting. So, there’s that.

I also used to have reviews twice a week – one on Monday and one on Wednesday – but ended up nixing that because reviews are terrible for stats, and I didn’t really like writing them, so it was hard to get up two per week.Β So, I decided to turn Wednesday into a free day, and it’s made me happier, and my blog stats are really good, so it’s much better.

Β At the moment, I post pretty early in the morning. It wasn’t always that way, and actually took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out.

When I started my blog, I did post in the mornings, usually around 10. No matter what, I’ll usually get up around six or seven because that’s when I have to get up for school, and my body is forever stuck in that mode. So, 10 was a good enough time for me to be able to get up and maybe edit the post if it still needed finishing.

Then, school started back up again, which created a sort of dilemma. I couldn’t post at 10 anymore since I had class then, and publishing a post via my iPad stressed me out, so I skipped that. I decided to post when I got home, which was usually around four in the afternoon. This was a pretty terrible choice, and I totally regret it, but the past is the past.

Of course, track started up again, and that was from after school to 5:30, and I usually didn’t get home until close to 7 at night. I didn’t want to post THAT late, but couldn’t post at four since I’d be practicing at that time, so as soon as school let out at three, I published my post and promoted it on social media. It took a while, and the locker room I changed in had crappy wi-fi, so, again, another terrible decision.

THEN, since that was really starting to stress me out, I decided that I’d go back to posting early in the mornings, so, during the school year, when I wake up, I usually post, and I’m set to go for the rest of the day. Usually, that’s sometime around 6. I’ll have to post EVEN EARLIER next school year because my brother is taking a before-school class, so, now I’ll be forced to wake up earlier. Hooray.

I honestly don’t know if it matters what time you post or not (I know my stats got better, but my blog was smaller back when I posted in the afternoons, so it might mean nothing), but you can totally try out different times and see what works for you.

File_002 (25)

Right now, I post on my blog four times per week, and I really like the schedule and will probably stick to it. Since I post on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, it’s sort of an “every other day” deal, and I like being able to take a break, but not TOO long of a break to the point that people might forget my blog.

I actually used to not have a set schedule for how many times I posted or what days I posted when I first started out, but then I got into a rhythm of three posts – one on Monday, one on Friday, and one on Sunday. It’s a big memory blank about what made me change that, but I remember wanting to post more often since I hated the three day break between Monday and Friday, and I chose Wednesday because it was in the middle.

Most people say that posting three times a week is consistent enough for your blog, and I agree that it’s not only effective, but it did wonders for my blog stats, but if you can only manage to post twice a week or once or maybe all seven days, go for it! It’s your blog, so do what you want with it.

And that’s it for my blogging schedule!

Hopefully, this might be helpful to anyone out there who’s trying to figure out their blogging schedule or if they even want one in the first place. A blogging schedule is definitely not for everyone, so don’t fret too much about it!

  1. I feel like I’m the only one who doesn’t have a blogging schedule (comment-stalkers: SOMEONE LIKE THIS COMMENT IF YOU DON’T have a schedule. I NEED TO FEEL LESS LONELY)
I did have one a YEAR back and I think it was Mondays and Saturdays or something and my posts literally just died. IT TAKES me forever to write a post like 3 hours for writing, editing, formatting, BLA BLA BLA. My blog was A WHOLE LOT smaller then (under 100 followers) so I didn’t know much about the blogger life. Now, I have so many post ideas but i could never.

I’m going to be moving blogs this July and I’m hoping to have somewhat of a blogging schedule which works around 2 posts a week (because I can’t do more) and my current blog is SUCH.A. MESS. It’s a reason why I’m moving because sometimes I post 2 times a week and then just die for 1 week and come back to life. IT BUGS ME!

I’m glad you can keep a schedule though! I admit it does do a lot for the organisation so I’m excited to start one but also incredibly nervous.

    • Aw, that’s totally fine! I know I pre-write my posts super early, so when it comes to a blogging schedule, I’m usually not doing it spontaneously. I have it meticulously planned out and pre-written because that’s who I am! πŸ˜‚

That’s definitely a good thing! I don’t think people should over-exert themselves if they don’t want to, especially when it comes to a hobby! And, yeah, I hope moving blogs works for you! ❀

Ooh, don’t be! I mean, I love organization when it comes to blogging, so it depends on what you like! πŸ˜‚

  2. Wow, you actually have a great schedule. I don’t have one, so I really admire people who do. I post completely randomly and I feel that it affects my blogging pace, brings up irregularities and overall not having a schedule is even more tiring than having one (I feel). Also, I think it’s commendable that you post 4 times a week. That’s really good!

  3. I generally post 3-4 times a week; that seems to be enough for me. Usually discussion/list on Monday, memes Tuesday and Wednesday, and reviews on Friday. I schedule them to post at the same time each day because I like consistency. I like having a schedule because it helps streamline my blogging – I don’t have to spend a lot of time thinking about when to post something. I’m not one of those people that can post on the fly, either!

    Liked by 1 person

    • Yes, I also like consistency! I suck at doing that with time since I wake up early but I can’t predict when in the morning, so that’s really up to chance! πŸ˜‚ Yeah, I agree! I just want to post my post, share it on social media, and move on! I can’t take too much time!

  4. Hi! I love this discussion topic! It is interesting when you say that reviews have bad stats, which made me realize that they totally do! My reviews have horrible stats and people tend to not comment on them! And I thought it was just me aha…
I post 4 times a week on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. I am thinking about spacing them out more, like what you are doing.
I am a bit perplexed about my posting time as well. My posting times have been erratic since essentially I post when I can. On some days like yesterday it just happens to be at 11:45pm. I find that my posts do better when I post earlier, like right after work.
Thanks for sharing this discussion topic. I enjoyed reading it and the comments πŸ™‚

    • I’m so glad you do! And you’re definitely not alone! For most bloggers, reviews just aren’t that popular, which is weird for book bloggers, when you think about it! πŸ˜‚

Yeah, I personally prefer spacing them out just because I want to give people at least two days to read my post, but that’s just me! And, yeah, I’ve always thought the earlier the better just because I believe it gives people more time to see my posts, but it’s not like I’ve studied it, so who knows! πŸ˜‚

Aw, no problem; I’m so glad you enjoyed it! πŸ˜„

      Liked by 1 person

      • Haha, yes, it is funny that reviews aren’t as popular as we would think πŸ™‚
It does make sense that spacing posts out will give readers more time to read them. It would also give me more time to write them too πŸ™‚ I think I might try to do this.
        Have a good day!

  5. I sort of have a schedule, sort of don’t. I typically post 2-3 times per week, and I try to space it out so that they’re not on consecutive days. For some reason, it really bothers me when I post on consecutive days. And I post on certain days of the week, for the most part, but I don’t always have it figured out WHAT I’m going to post. Sundays are for wrap ups, Mondays are for movies, TV, or gaming posts, Tuesdays are for bookish talks, Thursdays is for blog discussions, and Friday/Saturdays are for book reviews (for the most part). But what I post on each day and which day I post every week is different. So it gives me a guide of what I can post, then I work with what I’m actually in the mood to write. If that makes sense haha

    • Literally had to Google “consecutively” because now that it’s summer, I don’t know how to school anymore, but that’s not the point. πŸ˜‚ I agree! I always worry that it won’t give people enough time to read my previous post! Haha, because I write posts months ahead, I think it’s different for me than other people who write spontaneously! I know what’s going to be posted every day a month before! If I didn’t, then I’d have to comb through 30 drafts deciding which one to pick. πŸ˜‚

  6. I have to have a schedule for the same reason you do; if I don’t have a set day to get a post out, I’ll spend forever just fixing little details or editing the poor post for weeks!

For me, I post Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Mondays are for reviews so I have the whole weekend to read and gather my thoughts on a book. Wednesdays are for features, either a weekly feature or if I get tagged in something, and then Fridays are for discussion posts, because I feel like it’s nice to end a week talking to other book nerds about the things we love!

    • Oh, good, I’m glad I’m not the only one who suffers from over-editing! πŸ˜‚ I just can’t help myself, even when I’m about to post it, I keep editing.

Oh, that makes sense! I tend to also put my tags and lists on Wednesdays, unless it’s a “bigger” tag (like the Mid-Year Book Freak-Out Tag) or a list in really excited about (like my one about TV shows)! I also usually save Fridays and Sunday’s for discussions! πŸ˜„

  7. This was a great post, Mikaela and I 100% agree with you on needing a schedule! Ever since we started posting consistently, we’ve had a schedule. When we were posting every day we would always make sure to post different kinds of posts (tags, reviews, discussions, etc) each day to make sure we didn’t post too much of one type of post. And now that we’ve moved on to blogging every other day we just now that we need a post going up every other day and to include a review per week! It’s definitely helped quite a lot getting on a schedule!

    • Thank you so much! 😘 And, yeah, that makes sense! I know there are people I follow who post every day or twice every day, and I’m just like, “Whaaat??? How???” I mean, they usually post a lot of memes and reviews, but still, even if I liked doing them, I can’t blog every day. I don’t have that energy! πŸ˜‚ Yeah, I try to get up a review per week! I’m so lazy with my reviewing; someone needs to help me! But, yeah, it’s definitely helped me as well!

  8. I post a new book review every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I’m thinking about putting some on Sundays as well. I started back in December, but I’m just starting to get the hang of things now. I schedule my reviews ahead of time for 12 PM. I’m looking around for more things to post! πŸ™‚

  9. I am SO with you about needing a schedule! But besides a schedule for what day I’m going to post, I also need a schedule of exactly what I’m going to be posting on that day, so I can write it in advance and know what the month’s posts will be.

My posting schedule is Mon/Wed/Sat and I like it because it leaves time in between for each post to be read. Plus something about Mon/Wed/Sat satisifes me. XD I don’t have a specific time to post??? But I should. I think I’ll do it around 10 am, even when I go to school. (I scheduled posts during my vacay and I LOVE IT.) Fantastic post! πŸ™‚

    • Yeah, I need that, too! That’s what Planner Pro is for (at least, for me)! I usually pick which posts I’m going to post depending on my rougher schedule, I think.

Yeah, that’s true! I usually like leaving another day for people to read my posts, and I think that mainly because I give myself two days to comment on a post before I think that I’m probably not going to ever comment on it (but that’s just me lol). Haha, I would do it at 10, but the school iPad I had was SUPER SLOW in browser, and I didn’t like posting in the app??? And then I also like to edit my posts before I post them anyway! πŸ˜‚

  10. I have a sort of blogging schedule, but it’s kind of messed up right now. On Tuesdays I post TTTs (but they’re on hiatus), Wednesdays I post WWW Wednesdays, and Fridays is tag Friday. In place of TTT (at least until they come back), I plan to do a writing update on Saturdays, but I don’t know how well that’s gonna go as I’m not really writing much (I’m trying, okay!). And then I post reviews depending on when I finish books I’m reading. I’ve never thought about posting at a specific time though. Do you get different results depending on the time you post?

    • I’ve been posting sometime in the morning for a long time now, and I think it’s worked out great for me! There was only one day where I posted at midnight because there were weird circumstances, and even then, my stats were still pretty much the same! I haven’t posted late since I’ve started out, and I don’t think I want to even try! πŸ˜‚ It was a terrible idea for me.

  11. I haven’t got a blogging schedule yet, but I’m working on it. I have a hard time with that because I also post craft projects, and I’m not always able to complete them, or have enough finished to blog about. I’m looking at expanding to other areas so that I can devote other posts to other subjects. Maybe do a specific topic on certain days of the week.

    Liked by 1 person

    • Yeah, I’m sure blogging schedules and post frequency changes depending on what you blog about! Most of my posts are premeditated except reviews, while for mommy blogs that might blog about their daily adventures with their kids, it’s totally different and more spontaneous.

  12. I have changed schedule many times in 2 months of my blogging.

Initially I decided to post 3 times a week. But in doing so, I was holding back reviews that was not fair to authors. So, I started posting reviews I had ready till reading and posting reviews was balanced. I started author interview for which I am getting more views than reviews but days are not fixed for that, as soon as I get answers from authors I post. Till almost 1 month I was posting in morning around 11am IST. when I saw I am not getting any views or likes till noon 3, Maybe because of time differences between countries, I changed timings and started posting around 4 to 5. That worked well.

I post almost every day. And it’s working well. I’m getting more followers, likes and visitors.
Views on posting everyday is 60. If I skip a day which I did last week I guess. On that day views were only 25 or 30.

So I guess there are lots of factors here and very unpredictable. Maybe when I complete 6 months of blogging I have changed many things.

    • That definitely makes sense! I know I usually can only manage one review a week because I’m lazy when it comes to writing reviews. πŸ˜‚ And, good, I think it’s great to look at what’s good for you and figure it out! It seems like most of my readers don’t mind me posting in the mornings, so I’ll definitely continue!

Ah, that makes sense! I get less views on days I don’t post as well (they’re still pretty good, I guess)! πŸ˜‚

Yeah, it is very unpredictable! So far, my schedule worked, so I’ll keep t! πŸ˜„

  13. I have only been doing this for a few months but I have settled into a loose routine,
Mondays I try to have a discussion post, Wednesday a book review Friday Favourites for old book reviews, Book haul on Saturdays, if there has been one. The finally the Weekly Update on Sundays. If I have any extra reviews to fit in for ARC’s and the like I will squeeze them in on the empty days so I have posted daily almost.
Re timing, I try to have them pre-scheduled for around 7am but often I am still writing them at 10am. Ohh and the occasional TTT on Tuesday
I do hope I am not heading for blogger burnout.

  14. As for what days I post I have a schedule but as for what I’m posting on what day I don’t really have a schedule for that. Unless I’m doing a meme or something that is done on a certain day.

When I first started my blog I didn’t have a clue what I was doing. Like you I started my blog on a whim so at first I was just posting whenever I wanted to and then I started posting Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Then for one month I tried posting every single day but that only lasted for that one month. I am currently posting Monday – Friday and every once in a while I might post on Saturday but hardly ever. I am currently really liking my schedule and I will probably keep it the way it is for a while.

    • That makes sense! I usually only have set days for reviews, monthly recs, and discussions, and the two latter is mainly because of habit! πŸ˜‚

Oh, yeah, I’ve heard that there’s a thing in November where you blog every day for the whole month, and I could never. πŸ˜‚ I don’t have enough posts or ideas to keep up that sort of momentum! And, yeah, same! I probably won’t change it for a while! πŸ˜„

My schedule *used* to be every three days, but I’m changing it this week. I feel like my old schedule didn’t work because I always procrastinated and forgot which days I was supposed to post, so..

AH BUT I CANNOT! πŸ˜‚ I think I even try to at least put a tag or a list between Let’s Chat posts because I can’t help it! It’s for balance’s sake!

      Yeah, if I didn’t have a schedule, I’d be procrastinating. I’m lazy!

  16. I post at midnight EST. I have no idea if that’s a “good” time, but my co-blogger and I have been doing it since we started blogging. I figure some people are still up in the US, particularly on the West Coast where it’s only 9 pm, and if people are asleep when the post goes up or just not online, it will be there when they get up in the morning.

  17. I actually have a super similar schedule! I post Monday, Wednesday, Friday. I’ve found 3 days a week is a good amount for me but we’ll see if things change when I start college (eppp!) Right now I’m posting 2 reviews a week and Wednesdays are usually reserved for any type of discussion or fun post I come up with. I’ll probably stop doing 2 review per week once at catch up on reviews though because right now I’m finishing books 2 weeks before the review goes up soooo… it’s nice to not have to rush to get a review out but, at the same time, it’s kinda weird XD

      • For a while I had the same issue of reading too much and not having time to write reviews but I starting writing notes for my reviews immediately after finishing a novel. (what I liked, what I didn’t, what I want to talk about etc), this makes me able to come back and write the review a day or two later and actually remember the book! XD
Good luck with junior year! πŸ™‚

I found some memes I enjoy doing (Can’t Wait Wed, Sunday Post, TTT), WLABB has a meme we are trying to do more consistently (Stuffed Animal Saturday), and I post reviews the other days. Sometimes I get inspired and write a discussion post, but I am not the best at them.

  20. I have a schedule, I guess detailed. Otherwise nothing would ever go up with a baby, haha. This way I can work way ahead of time. I know what I will partly be posting in September. I don’t really look at what reviews do to my stat. I post them because I want to share my thoughts for that book, not for any stats. I post reviews twice a week now because otherwise I would have planned in reviews until the end of October already. Because of that I post 4-5 times a week.

  21. Oh great post! I’ve just been posting every other day but I definitely like the idea of having certain days you know you’ll post something. I have been toying around with the idea of posting a review every other Friday so I think I might try that out and see how it goes!

As for what time they go up, I schedule my posts to go public anywhere between 10am through 11:45am. I haven’t paid any particular attention as to whether that’s a good time or not. I’ll have to look more closely at that from now on!
